When You Start Measuring Yourself Against the Wrong Ruler

Imagine this…..You had a productive day. You then had a peaceful night’s sleep. You wake up, open your phone, and there it is:
A friend has just gotten engaged.
Another one is on yet another vacation.
Another has started a fitness journey.
Someone else is moving to another country yet again !!!!!!!
By the time you wake up, brush your teeth, take a dump and have your coffee, you’re already feeling behind. Not bad, exactly.
But a little ummmm…..smaller. A little stuck.
Like your life should be something more.
The Silent Habit
It’s subtle. You don’t even notice it most of the time.
But you’re comparing, very quietly, constantly.
And what are you probably comparing ??
Their smile vs. your dark circles.
Their milestones vs. your pauses or breaks.
Their curated joy vs. your unfiltered thoughts.
This is social comparison, and it’s stitched into how we think, not because we’re insecure, but because we’re human.
Andddd….Why Do We Do It
Our brains look for patterns. We learn by seeing others. Hence we compare to answer: Am I doing okay?
But somewhere along the way, it stops being curiosity and becomes self-judgment.
And the worst part?
We’re usually comparing our private struggles with someone else’s public polish.
So what happens as a result ? What does it feel like ???
You start doubting your pace.
You question your worth.
You forget that you were on your own journey just yesterday and that it was enough.
Here’s A Note to You (Yes, YOU)
You are not behind.
You are just living a different life, shaped by different moments, different storms, different dreams.
Always remember: Someone else’s success does not erase your progress. And someone else’s spotlight does not dim your light.
So what am I telling you then ??
“You are not in competition with anyone else. The only comparison that matters is the one between who you were yesterday and who you are becoming.”
Pause. Breathe. Log out for a while.
Your life is unfolding at its own perfect speed !!!
Being is your truth. Becoming is your power.
